PIGMENTATION

face carousel.jpg

Abnormal colouration in the face can be due to many conditions and causes, but we tend to divide it into that caused by discrete lesions and that due to general background change.

Pigmented lesions need to be managed by a board-licensed plastic surgeon before any attempt to remove them. This is because removal by untrained persons may lead to a missed skin cancer diagnosis with major repercussions. Benign lesions are effectively treated by a number of techniques including ablative, non-ablative, Q-switched lasers, Picosecond laser, and even plasma device

Diffused and generalised discoloration in the face is usually either reddish or brownish. Red discoloration is usually caused by altered very thin blood vessels in the face, either as congenital or as acquired spots. Brownish diffuse pigmentation may be also due to a variety of issues, melasma and post inflammatory pigmentation being very common: they may require pre treatment cream and post treatment cream application.
