Pigmentation @skinsurgeon London
Uneven pigmentation can appear simple, but it is rarely one-size-fits-all. Sun damage, melasma, post-acne marks and pigmented scars, not to mention pigmented tumours and cancer each require a different level of precision. At SkinSurgeon®, pigmentation is approached medically and surgically, not cosmetically. Every treatment begins with careful diagnosis, skin-type assessment and a strategy designed to improve tone while protecting the skin. Treatment may involve prescription creams, oral medications, treatment of underlying conditions, strict photoprotection, IPL, selected laser treatments, or fractional resurfacing where texture and pigmentation overlap. For Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and darker skin types, this precision matters even more.
Over-treatment can worsen pigmentation, so protocols are deliberately measured, staged and consultant-led.The aim is refined, clearer skin — not an aggressive quick fix. For discreet, consultant-led pigmentation treatment in Malta or London, contact SkinSurgeon® to arrange an assessment.

Discrete Pigmented Lesions
Abnormal colouration in the face can be due to many conditions and causes, but we tend to divide it into that caused by discrete lesions and that due to general background change.
Pigmented lesions need to be managed by a board-licensed plastic surgeon before any attempt to remove them. This is because removal by untrained persons may lead to a missed skin cancer diagnosis with major repercussions. Benign lesions are effectively treated by a number of techniques including ablative, non-ablative, Q-switched lasers, Picosecond laser, and even plasma device
Diffused Pigmentation
Diffused and generalised discoloration in the face is usually either reddish or brownish. Red discoloration is usually caused by altered very thin blood vessels in the face, either as congenital or as acquired spots. Brownish diffuse pigmentation may be also due to a variety of issues, melasma and post inflammatory pigmentation being very common: they may require pre treatment cream and post treatment cream application.

Melasma & Post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation
Melasma is a cosmetic condition where the skin progressively becomes more and more pigmented resulting in dark circles, darkend uppe lips, or even the forehead. There are various forms. melasma is often accompanied by PIH or post inflammatory hyperpigmentation where the skin is unable to distinguish between sun and other inflammatory causes and result in pigmentation.
Using a combination of topical creams, oral medications and laser (including Quality Switched Lasers, Picosecond Laser, Picosecond Longwave fractioned laser and other modalities, we are able to manage melasma and improve it long term
