Professor Afshin Mosahebi

Consultant plastic surgeon

Professor Ash Mosahebi is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon and the academic Lead at the Royal Free Hospital in London, where he heads one of the UK’s largest plastic surgery teaching units. He graduated from Guy’s & St Thomas’ Medical School, University of London, before undertaking elite, specialist plastic surgery training across respected clinical centers in London, New York City, and Belgium.  A leader in academic surgery and clinical innovation, Professor Mosahebi is an Honorary Professor at University College London (UCL). His pioneering research centers on tissue engineering, stem cell technology, and advanced wound healing.

 

Notably, he was the first surgeon in the UK to perform Vaser (ultrasound-assisted) liposuction and is widely recognised for his expertise in complex microsurgical breast and facial reconstruction.  Beyond the operating room, Professor Mosahebi shapes international industry standards. He is the senior international editor the prestigious Aesthetic Surgery Journal (ASJ) and has served on the UK’s Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) on Plastic Surgery. His leadership extends to major national bodies: he is a past President of the Royal Society of Medicine (Plastic Surgery Section), a member of the BAPRAS research committee, and serves as the Head of the BAAPS Academy, where he oversees advanced medical education and surgeon certification in aesthetic practice.  In his clinical practice, Professor Mosahebi frequently collaborates with Professor Azzopardi, co-operating on complex, joint surgical cases to deliver optimal, multidisciplinary patient care.
